MacTrace is THE ONE application you need as a MacUser.

It enables you to locate your Mac in case of theft : you can then recover it.

 
WARNING ! Make sure you contact the police to report the robbery first !
 

It works according to a basic principle :
 

   1. After installing it, the application requires you to enter your e-mail address. Beware! once you have entered it, you cannot modify it !
   2. Every time you start your Mac, the application automatically and discreetly sends a report to your e-mail address.
   3. In case of theft, you can just wait for the next report, which includes 3 items :

- Time when the message got sent

- IP address of the sender

- and the ISP's name (internet service provider)

      4.  Then all you have to do is give the email to the police, who will / should contact the ISP to find out about the identity, name and address of the person using the internet connection from that IP.
 

Warning !

In order for the application to work, the computer needs to be online !
If it is not, then no report will be sent !

This application is a freeware.
It will not install any virus or trojans, and the traceroute report will only be sent to the email adress you specified when installing it.

It will only launch once the session is open, it will not launch before the session window !
